A Delightful Addition to Newport, RI History: For Kids and Adults!

I love that this book comes from both historical research and the journal of Paul Stedman, the lighthouse keeper's grandson, who lived at Rose Island for one full year. In Lynne Heinzmann's deft hands, the story becomes a tale for all ages - shining light upon a delightful bit of Newport, RI history, particularly during the Depression. Heinzmann has done a marvelous job of capturing the details, as well as helping readers understand what it must have been like for the young (5-6 year old) Paul Stedman. There is a delightful humor in the tale. And the illustrates are also lovely. It's exciting for RI history that students and tourists who visit the lighthouse can now take home a bit of that history with them. Readers will learn about life during the Depression, how a lighthouse works/worked, and many fun tales that bring the information to life.
